Visiting the Farmers' Market

One of the things that we miss most about the US is the weekly visits to the farmers' market at California Avenue every Sunday. We were delighted to discover the market was open the day after Boxing Day, giving us the chance to buy fresh organic produce such as kale, chard and broccoli.

The weather was extremely cold, around zero degrees Celsius. Due to the holiday season, only some farmers had set up their stalls, which explained why it was not so crowded.

Read in the papers that this farmers' market is becoming extremely popular particularly as the folks that visit the market tend to be educated, affluent and willing to shell out money for organic produce. We bought a gallon of organic apple cider that cost 8 bucks while three bunches of different vegetables were going for 5 bucks.

California Avenue is also home to Izzy's Bagels, where you can pick up some yummy homemade cream cheese!
