Travels in Taiwan

Finally managed to get down to posting some photos of our December vacation to Taiwan. We spent 11 days in the country and visited Taipei, Jiufen, Jinguashi and Tainan.

What impressed me most was the people. They were friendly, humorous and extremely civic-minded. It must be one of the cleanest countries I have ever visited. However, Hubby D and I had mixed feelings about the food. Many Singaporeans rave about the wonderful street food but much of what we saw and tasted were mediocre and extremely oily. I had a really bad breakout in Taiwan, which kinda marred the culinary experience for me. Thankfully, there were still really good fare that we could rely on such as Mitsui Cuisine.

In Taipei, we took it easy, preferring to check out places at our leisure. One of the nicest places we went to was the Eslite bookstore. It's amazing how bookstores continue to survive in this city with the pervasiveness of Amazon. Eslite even has a 24-hour bookstore.

It was nice to get out of the city for a couple of days. We enjoyed spending sometime in Jiufen and Jinguashi. We had some really good food in Tainan, the country's first capital, although Hubby D and I agree that it is not a place that we will visit again anytime soon. Maybe being city folks, we still prefer modern Taipei.
