After leaving Carmel this morning, we decided to check out Hearst Castle on our way down south to Santa Barbara. The castle is a national monument located in the central coast of California and was designed by architect Julia Morgan for media tycoon William Randolph Hearst. On the way to the castle, we drove past stunning beaches, wineries and saw cows grazing on the hills.
To get to the castle, we had to take a tour by bus to see the sprawling grounds and beautifully preserved buildings. The views from the castle grounds were gorgeous and so were the swimming pools and magnificent rooms.
Hubby D drove some five hours today before we finally arrived at our rest stop in Santa Barbara in the evening. We checked into the Agave inn, our first ever motel stay in the US. It turned out to be a great choice as the room was both funky and modern. Exactly the way we liked it (more pictures to follow soon)!
